"During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake"
-Matthew 14:25
Have you ever wondered how Jesus Christ walked on the water of the lake? But what I do know is this, there is something more in that statement and that story. The way Jesus Christ called Peter to walk with Him in the water. Let's look at it deeply.
One of the things that holds us Christians back into doing the what God commanded us is this, Comfort Zone. Yes, believe it or nor, if we are stuck at our comfort zone, we won't be able to move forward or take another step because it will eventually hold us back in having breakthroughs in our spiritual growth. In the story where Peter and the other disciples are in the boat the lake, they are in their comfort zone. Whatever happens we will be safe in this boat. Sino ba naman kasing may gustong lumabas sa bangka na yun lalo na kung nasa gitna pa ng lake diba? But they saw Jesus Christ walking ON the lake! Wala pang nakakagawa nun! Haha. Then after seeing what Jesus Christ did, what did Peter do?
"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." (Matthew 14:28). Katindi din ni Peter e ano? haha. He immediately told Jesus Christ that he also wanted to walk on water. How I wish every Christian is like that. As we grow in our relationship with God, We don't have to wait for God to tell us that we need to go out of our comfort zone, because it should be expected. Leaving our comfort zone is not easy. It requires great faith and stregth, why? Leaving your most comfortable place and switch it with something that you are not sure if you have a future there or something that you are not sure what will happen to you? Its like going out of your house during the middle of the night with just a torch on your hand and complete darkness that surrounds you. But you have God to accompany you. All you have to do is trust Him for directions, safety, and provision along the way. One of the common line of Christian is this "When you have Jesus in your life, you have everything you need." Which is true. If you have Jesus Christ in your life, you are not lacking anything. He can provide for you, be it spiritual or physical needs; emotional or financial, He can provide. He is always with you till the very end of age (Mat. 28:20b) what more can you ask?
And the story continues, Peter asked Jesus if he to can walk in water, Jesus called Peter "come". God is always waiting for us. Whatever situation, God cannot work in your life if you are not allowing Him. Peter allowed Jesus Christ to work in his life that is why, Jesus Christ has been showing Peter miracle after miracle and what He can do to his life. If we let God and allow Him to work in our lives, I guarantee you, miracles will be your lifestyle. After having that step of faith, Peter did walk on water, going straight to Jesus. But a tragedy happened.
As Peter walked in water, he suddenly doubts God's power to let him walk on water. Actually, situations like this appear almost everyday to Christians. At first, we take the step of faith then while in the middle of the challenge, we sometimes lose our faith. We doubt. And by doubting, the enemy has robbed us our trust in God to do miracles in our lives. That happened to Peter. Obstacles in our lives are meant to be overcome by us. That is why it is set for us in the first place. Grow during the process, that is what God wants from you.
At the end of the story, as Peter sink on the water, Jesus Christ immediately pulled him out. In our struggles, if problems and trials tend to overflow like a deep ocean around us and we are sinking, God is always there to pull you up. All we need to do is cry out to Him. If we fall, stand up for God gives us strength to stand.
Walking on water is not easy, but with God's help and leading, you can definitely walk on water.
"However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"--"
-1 Corinthians 2:9
3 Points: Faith, Direction, Lordship
